Nutrition for young athletes: enhance athletic performance
Dr. Paul Stricker is a pediatrician and sports medicine specialist at Scripps Clinic in San Diego, California. In this video, he stresses how critical it is for young athletes to add nutrients from whole foods to provide adequate energy for exercise and maintain a healthy immune system.
Dr. Stricker says, “Most children eat so poorly, it's a wonder that they can perform on the field or in the classroom at all. Athletes can be physically fit but still unhealthy. That's why I'm so thrilled with Juice Plus+: it's such an easy way for children and their parents to get more of the good nutrition lacking in our diets today. Optimal nutrition is absolutely essential to good health and to optimal physical performance.”
Dr. Stricker was selected by the U.S. Olympic Committee as team physician for the U.S. Olympic Team delegation at the Sydney Olympics in 2000. He has also served as team physician for several U.S. national teams and was appointed head physician of the World University Games in 1999. Additionally, he has worked as team physician for the Division 1A Vanderbilt University Commodores in Nashville, Tennessee and the University of San Diego Toreros in San Diego, California.
Dr. Stricker is a charter member and past President of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine, a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics Council on Sports Medicine and Fitness, a member of the editorial advisory board of Healthy Children magazine, and a reviewer of manuscripts for the journal Pediatrics. He is also author of the awarding-winning book, Sports Success Rx, published in conjunction with the American Academy of Pediatrics.
